The pavillion was designed to anchor the Ford City Community Garden with a permanent shelter for community gatherings. It was designed to be built on a limited budget with mostly off-cuts, and recycled materials from Habitat for Humanity (who also built the project), as well as reclaimed whiskey pallet wood from the nearby Hiram Walker Distillery. The intended playful and colourful materials create an aesthetic continuity with the Neighbourhood Renewal’s painted fences and murals which brighten Ford City’s alleyways and streets.
